Chris Janson released his debut album today, and it sounds pretty good. People lament that country music has been overrun by "bro country," where every song is about pickup trucks and back roads and girls in vanishingly small cut-off jeans. Janson doesn't do that. Very old school country. Looks like this -- "The Power of Positive Drinking" -- will be the next single off his new album:
Justin Moore premiered his new single today, too -- also old school country, called "You Look Like I Need a Drink." Don't have the audio on that yet, as it was only released this morning, but I'll get it up. Great song. Since I don't have it, here's another Justin Moore song:
I love all kinds of stuff, but these guys remind me why I love country, too.
You might recall that in early May I told you about this guy. Chris Janson, who three months ago didn't have a record contract, now has a top 10 single, and it likely will hit No. 1 on the country charts in the next week or two. Spotting that song, I think, makes me as qualified as anybody to be an A&R guy for a record label (that's artists and repertoire, people, the guys who find the new talent). Two months after the first time anybody but his family and his co-writer heard the song, Janson was performing "Buy Me a Boat" at the Grand Ole Opry. A month ago this guy was nobody, had no record deal, probably playing for tips. Now, he is all over country radio, has a deal with Warner Nashville and is climbing the charts. Why? Bobby Bones put this song on the air when Chris Janson sent it to him via email. Wasn't even finished, as it turns out. For those of you who don't know, Bobby Bones does a nationally syndicated country morning show out of Nashville that you should check out. It is not what you think country is. Anyway, this is a jam:
