48 years ago today ...
. . . the Packers dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in what came to be called Super Bowl I (at the time it was called the World Championship Game, AFL vs. NFL). The Packers were led by Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr (15):
Max McGee, a backup wide receiver, told starter Boyd Dowler not to get hurt because McGee had been out on the town (the game was played in the Los Angeles Coliseum) until 7 am and was sure he was too tired and hungover to play. Naturally, Dowler got hurt and McGee, who caught four passes all season long, had to go in. He caught 7 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns. Here's one of the catches:

Max, who was a co-founder of the Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant chain and became a multimillionaire when he sold his shares in 1998, died at age 75 in 2007 from injuries suffered when he fell from his roof while cleaning his gutters. Did I mention he was 75?
Anyway, we hope the proximity of the anniversary is a positive omen for Sunday's game in Seattle. Go Pack!
