I think the swordfish is dead

We got sent home early a couple times recently, and today we sat idle for eight hours before a little work finally appeared. It was gone by the time I left. Just a little clean-up stuff. I think this swordfish is done.

Some folks will be kept, but it looks like any day now, about three-fourths of the 200 or so people on this project will be looking for work. The company driving this merger usually keeps a fire brigade for months after most folks are let go, and I've been kept both times I have previously worked for this company on mergers, but past performance is no guarantee of future results. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we're looking at this:

I could be wrong. It might not be tomorrow. But it will be soon.

And we won't even always have Paris. We'll just be looking for work again.

The swordfish is dead

Of course, it didn't die of natural causes. I killed it. Walked out on the project for something with overtime. But, dead is dead:

And that swordfish is dead. On the other hand, the heavy-overtime project I start tomorrow is a very healthy swordfish indeed:

Allons, bebe, laissez les bon temps roulez.

Yeah, today we got the hook

The swordfish is dead. On the deck, hanging from its tail by a hook, deader that dead. Now, we are awaiting word on whether we get rolled to the project the agency has that is supposed to start next week. We'll see, on both counts -- whether we get rolled over (or more appropriately, I, since I don't give a fuck if anyone else gets rolled over), and whether the project actually starts next week. Naturally, I have tons of resumes out there, looking for a new gig, because Rule No. 1 is, they're lying. I might get rolled over, but hope is not a plan and does not pay the bills. Looking for more projects tonight, as I have been all week. Poor swordfish:

Gaffed, on the deck and hanging by its tail for the proud-fishermen photo

Yeah, that swordfish is toast. They made the announcement at 5 pm today: thanks for all your help, don't let the screen door slap you in the ass on the way out. Naturally, I have already switched to looking-for-a-new-gig mode, although nothing is likely before next Monday.

I don't know any of these people, and to my knowledge none of them were on my project, although I suppose it is possible. But they have a swordfish hanging by its tail, so they made the blog.
