We were THIS close to a white Christmas

A few days before Christmas, we actually go measurable snowfall. Things got too busy to post about it at the time. But a week before Christmas, this is what I woke up to on Sunday:

Looking left (east):

And right (west):

Sure, not much, but December snow happens so seldom around here that it was notable. Alas, it was a week early:

Of course, most of it was gone by late in the day, but still . . . A little better timing, and we could have had a White Christmas:

White Christmas for this area: doubtful

So say the weather people, anyway. Given that it hit near 70 degrees today -- the first official day of winter -- I believe them. It's raining right now on the longest night of the year, and I guess if it were 35 degrees colder it might be snowing. Anyway, here's the map laying out your odds of a white Christmas:

We're not quite in the "no" zone, so I'm holding out hope.

Early or not, more snow

Yeah, it did it again. Not quite as much -- about 4 inches -- but even that much is odd for thais early in the winter. Being north and west of DC, we get more snow generally, but even around here, December snow is rare and usually light. To get 8-10 inches in two days is downright bizarre. Must be that global warming I hear so much about -- not. Anyway, looking left:

And right:

And straight out the door:

Jeb the Wonder Dog enjoyed him some snow, but I provide no new pictures of him because it goes to his head.

I'm getting tired of clearing off my car, so I hope we get no more snow for a few weeks. Maybe a White Christmas?

White Christmas, baby

Out of the blue. None of my freaky-deaky weather gadgets on my computer told me this was going to happen. Anyway, we're getting snow. Not a lot-- maybe an inch or so -- but it's a white Christmas all the same.

These pictures are looking right, looking straight out and looking left from my sidewalk at about 4:30 pm. I think it has turned to snow mixed with sleet or rain now. Anyway, this isn't a weather blog, except when I decide that it is. Merry Christmas, everyone.

Update: A little Otis Redding for you all:
