On the one hand, John Kerry, who is now secretary of state, is a doofus. He has always been a doofus. But he has been a doofus who has married well (twice) and is consequently quite wealthy. He spent the Independence Day holiday on his(very expensive) yacht. He can afford it, and I have no problem with that. On the other hand, denying that you have nice toys and might be using them is stupid. My problem begins when the State Department denies Kerry was on his yacht when, as Mary Katherine Ham at Hot Air makes very clear, Kerry was totally on his yacht and the State Department had to walk back its denial. The thing is, it was a big holiday, Kerry didn't know Egypt was going to blow up -- let's face it, as the worst Secretary of State since Hillary Clinton, he really doesn't know shit, but that seems to be par for the Obama administration secretaries of state -- and so being on his yacht is not an indictment. Denying it, however, is.
Naturally, at the same time Kerry was denying having fun on the water (despite theBoston Herald having pictures of him on his kayak),
President Obama was tweeting pictures of himself on his kayak, too. Ed Druscoll mighta sorta put up the best interpretation of that:
Timing is everything.
