Had to finally get out there and do the final deed on the front beds. Actually, it isn't the final deed - I still have to plant bulbs, but there isn't really a before-and-after to that, since bulbs in the ground look pretty much like no bulbs in the ground. Anyway, here's the state of play as of Sunday morning. In the sidewalk beds, eight bunches of decorative grasses flanking the sidewalk:
In the main bed, the three shrubs we planted last week and a whole bunch of empty dirt:
What to do, what to do? Naturally, Mrs. Wolves thought that digging up the grasses would be just ducky. So I did:
Not done yet, kids. Put those grasses in the wheelbarrow and toted them over to the main bed.
Whereupon we dug a bunch of holes and filled in all that empty dirt:
Another view:
Not that bad on the forced labor front. Putting in the bulbs -- I have more than 100 to plant -- will be another story, but you won't see anything on that until spring, when they start coming up.

All that gardening looks like hard work. If I ever get a house with a garden, I'll acquire a goat to act as a lawnmover/ fertilizer/ hedge trimmer and shrubbery-remover.
