D-Day remembered
On this day in 1944, American, British, Canadian and other allied troops -- Polish, French and God knows who else -- stormed ashore at Normandy, France, to begin the end of fascism's grip on the European continent. June 6, 1944 -- D-Day -- cost the lives of roughly 4,000 Americans. I suspect we might be unwilling to pay that price today, but they paid it willingly. The guys who made it through are fewer everyday. The least we can do is pay some small honor to the sacrifice they made. Lord knows, they deserve more.
