Flower identified

I posted some flower pictures from my garden yesterday and mentioned that I had no idea what kind of flowers they were but that  I liked them. Naturally, an informed and attentive reader filled in the blanks of my ignorance. The flowers in question are gladioli -- gladiolus in the singular, thank you very much. And thank you to the reader who let me know what these magnificent specimens are called:

All I know is they are pretty and they spread like wildfire. Good combination.
