It's a brave new world, kids

The Navy is testing its new Laser Weapon System aboard the USS Ponce, which I think is in the Persian Gulf. Looks like the laser could be just the thing to halt swarms of speedboats trying to overwhelm a ship's defenses, not that anyone we know would try such a thing. Anyway, this thing looks pretty cool, not to mention accurate and effective:

I want the job of the guy who gets to target and trigger the laser. It looks like he's playing a video game -- a super-lethal video game that combines cool with splosions and a major state of sexual arousal. Damn, if we could just mount these things on sharks' heads.
